Organ Recital with Cheese and Wine, May 2025
On
3rd
May,
St
Mary’s
was
filled
with
the
resounding
tones
of
the
organ
in
the
hands
of
the
renowned
organist
James Thomas.
The
organ
is
the
result
of
a
generous
bequest
by
a
Bacton
parishioner
enabling
its
restoration
to
be
completed
and
to
sound
as
good
as
it
does
today.
It
was,
therefore,
marvellous
to
be
able
welcome
his
family
to
the
event.
James,
until
recently
the
Director
of
Music
at
St Edmundsbury
Cathedral,
put
the
organ
through
its
paces
with
a
selection
of
music
including
well
known
pieces
by
J
S
Bach,
Mendelssohn
and
Albinoni,
finishing
with
the
rousing Toccata by Eug
è
ne Gigout.
The
evening
continued
with
a
cheese
and
wine
supper
and
the
audience
of
over
40
enjoyed
a
variety
of
cheeses
and
a
selection
of
eight
wines
chosen
to
compliment
them.
Everyone
enjoyed
an extremely sociable evening.
