Project: The Tower
Objective:
•
Repairs to unsafe stairway
•
Repair and re-roof the top of the tower
•
Repairs and screening of louvred openings to exclude birds
Background:
The tower work involves re-covering the roof and sundry repairs. The Quinquennial inspection report dated 18th March
2013 identified the work as replacing the defective lead sheet roof covering and replacing the defective lead cover
flashings
Budget:
Total £41,000 (in 2014)
Current Progress:
The work on the tower has been approved by the Diocesan Advisory Committee (DAC). A grant bid for funding was
submitted but this has failed. The Parochial Church Council (PCC) has decided that the priority should be the Doom and
has asked that the grant promised by the Friends for the Tower work now be allocated to the Doom restoration and the
electrical work. This means that any Tower work will be on hold for at least another year. The Friends had undertaken
to grant £6,000 towards the tower repair.
Work on site has not yet been scheduled.
